2016 JHNSA Boat Drop

Where We Are in 2016

Fair winds have begun to stir and have allowed us to actually begin our mooring design and detailed planning work for the Shipyards in downtown Jacksonville. There are many Irish Pennants (loose ends) and details to confirm before firm dates are available to share, but the traction is exciting! We will have more details to follow as soon as available.

In the meantime, please ensure your JHNSA membership is up to date. Please also consider stepping up to the next level of support as every dollar is spent towards bringing home the ship. Your 2016 JHNSA membership gives you eligibility to become a USS Adams Museum Pre-Commissioning (PRECOM) Crew member.

PRECOM crew members will enjoy the greatest opportunities to participate in the special events surrounding the USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2) coming home to JAX in 2016. Our goal is to have her downtown for the Jacksonville Veterans Day (Week of Valor) 2016 activities. This includes events associated with the Notre Dame Vs. Navy football game on Saturday, November 5th 2016 at Everbank Field in Downtown Jacksonville.

Mtg with Gov. Rick Scott

A model of the USS Glover (AGDE/FF-1098) is behind us. Gov. Scott served aboard her in the early 70’s.

Recently, JHNSA was provided an opportunity to update Florida Governor and NAVY Veteran, Rick Scott on our progress and ask for his support in a budget request that is being worked through the Florida Legislature. Many thanks to State Representative Charles McBurney and Mr. Mike Hightower for securing our wonderful visit with the Governor.

If you have been waiting to discuss business partnerships, sponsorships or legacy donations, now is the time to begin those conversations and be forever known for helping to BRING HOME THE ADAMS!

The USS ADAMS Museum participates in Week of Valor

We had a great time during the City of Jacksonville’s Week of Valor, that happening Nov. 7 – 21, throughout the city.

Approximately 150,000 veterans and 50,000 active duty military and department of defense employees call Jacksonville their home. Week of Valor focused on veterans living in the Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia areas with several events to honor them and provide resource tools to help those in need.

The USS ADAMS Museum was proud to honor our veterans at the 4th Annual Salute to Veterans 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run Nov. 8 outside The Jacksonville Landing. More than 500 runners signed-up to attend the run presented by the CHASE and the Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association. Thank you to CHASE for your $10,000 donation to help us BRING HOME THE ADAMS!

Around 500 runners signed up to participate in our 4th Annual Salute to Veterans 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run!

Thank you to our title sponsor CHASE for partnering with us to honor our veteran community.

The run kicked off with a thank you to our veterans and singing of our military’s service songs.

The ship’s bell from the former USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2) rang the official start to the run!

On your mark, get set, GO! Thank you Snyderman, from Snyder Heating and Air Conditioning, for leading the pack at the start of the run.

“We need more Cowbell!” Thank you CHASE for donating the cowbells to cheer on our runners and to all of our volunteers for coming out to help.

Jacksonville University NROTC was the first team to cross the finish line.

The Jacksonville Team Red, White and Blue organization took home the largest team award at the run.

Thank you to CHASE for your $10,000 donation to BRING HOME THE ADAMS! We Salute You!

On Nov. 10, we were at the Florida Defense Expo at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center. The Expo offers an ideal opportunity to bring military and other organizations together with businesses dedicated to providing high quality products and services to our warfighters and first-responders. We had a wonderful time speaking with the professionals at the expo and listening to Congressman Ander Crenshaw speak and visit all of the booths.

Congressman Ander Crenshaw stopped by our booth at the Florida Defense Expo Nov. 10 at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center.

During Veterans Day, we were invited to march in the City of Jacksonville’s Veterans Day Parade and started the parade with the ringing the ship’s bell from the USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2). The parade was a fantastic way to raise awareness for The USS ADAMS Museum. We handed out around 4,000 wristbands, 1,000 Sailor hats and took more than a few photos with the thousands of spectators that came out to Downtown Jacksonville for the parade. Read more about our ship’s bell at the parade at http://goo.gl/x0aliK.

Eighteen volunteers came out to march for The USS ADAMS Museum during the City of Jacksonville’s Veterans Day Parade.

It was a beautiful day and thanks to Snyderman, with Snyder Heating and Air Conditioning, he keep us super “cool” among the parade attendees.

Our wristbands and Sailor hats were a big hit with the thousands of attendees that came out to watch the parade.

The real USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2) may still be in Philadelphia but our cardboard replica proudly sailed down the streets of Jacksonville.

Overall, it was all smiles as we finished the parade and City of Jacksonville Week of Valor support!

Thank you Salute to Veterans 5K Sponsors

A big Thank You to all of our sponsors of the 4th Annual Salute to Veterans 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run: Chase, W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor, Inc., Snyder Heating and Air Conditioning, PRC Digital Media, Holland & Knight, Geer Services, Inc., Pita Pit, AARP Jacksonville, Client Focused Media, and Liberty Tax Service.

We absolutely appreciate your generosity and partnership in helping us BRING HOME THE ADAMS!
